World Peace 2000 (Australia) events on 1 January 2000 included the World Peace Flame arrival, Aboriginal Welcoming Ceremonies, Multi Faith Religious Vigils, Family Picnics, Planting Poles for Peace, World Peace Meditations, Sports, Multicultural dancing and celebrity shows!

An estimated 80,000 people directly participated in the 1 January 2000 ONE DAY IN PEACE events around Australia. An estimated audience of 100,000 people were reached with our peace message just between NSW and Victorian TV Radio interviews. Australians that were reached via Aboriginal Gatherings, leaflet distribution, e-mails, local newspapers, public lectures and other events created at the last moment, are not included in the 180,000 Australians who received the message to celebrate 1 January 2000 as a One Day in Peace!

World Peace 2000 (Australia) Monument

Stonnington City Council joined, and Mayor Cr. Annette Stockman on behalf of Stonnington City Council highlighted our celebrations with the donation of the "World Peace 2000 Australia Monument" a double torch Hellenic Monument that will be use to celebrate every 1 January as "One Day in Peace" in all our Millennium of Peace celebrations.

It is amazing that Airforce planes normally used for war were used to carried the indigenous Peace Flames from five continents to and from the United Kingdom (Wales).

Aboriginal Elder Pearl Wymerra sent our sacred flame to United Kingdom. Thus joining Australian's indigenous spirit and World Peace Leaders flames to the World Peace Flame!

Kate van der Voort presents the sacred World Peace Flame to Richard A. Fletcher (in white) to light the two torches of the "World Peace 2000 Australia Monument"

Stonnington Mayor, Cr. Annette Stockman and MLA Victor Perton MP representing The Prime Minister also officiated at the lighting ceremony in Barry Street, City of Stonnington in Victoria, Australia.

World Peace 2000 / One Day in Peace celebrations on 1 January 2000 joined people from Multi Faith and Multicultural organisations, in excess of 1000 NGO's (Non-Government Organizations) and countries around the world!

'One Day in Peace' The Word Is Getting Out and About!

Australian Volunteers in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia in order to attract attention to this Global Peace Event; planted Poles for Peace, held a number of Multi Religious, Multi Cultural Prayer and Meditations, as well as Sacred Indigenous events!

In Melbourne the UN World Peace 2000 / One Day in Peace celebrations joined the multi million dollar budget Melbourne City Council New Millennium's Celebrations which started with The World Peace Flame welcome at 5:30 AM on the 1 January. The celebrations were continued in the afternoon in the City of Stonnington with the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Meditation followed by a Multi Cultural Middle Eastern show, the Chapel Street World Peace March which was lead by The Hon Victor Perton MP (representing Australia's Prime Minister, The Honorable John Howard MP) and Councillor Annette Stockman, Mayor for the City of Stonnington!

The World Peace March ended at Barry Street where Kate van der Voort and Richard Fletcher UN Regional Coordinator, World Peace 2000 / One Day In Peace used the "World Peace Flame" to light the two torches of the "World Peace 2000 Monument" kindly donated to World Peace 2000 (Australia) by the City of Stonnington Council to mark the beginning of Peace in Australia!

"Symbol of Peace - carried by War Planes!"

Australian Aboriginal Elder Pearl Wymerra supporting World Peace sent their Sacred Flame in and Australian Air Force plane to the UK to be joined with the Sacred Flames of other Indigenous People & World Peace Leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and Dalai Lama, to finally become the "World Peace Flame."

It is an ironic twist to carry the flames between UK and Australia in planes that are usually employed in actions of war that have united our beautiful symbol of our Australian Peace with the rest of the world, which returned to Australia as a symbol of the world's desire to join with us in our unique World Peace Model!

Lighting the World Peace 2000 (Australia) Monument with the World Peace Flame has now symbolically joined the City of Stonnington and Australia in Peace with all continents of the world!

1 January 2002 is the first time USA citizens celebrate their new National Holiday and will also be the first year all Australians will begin their yearly World Peace 2000 (Australia) - Gathering of All Nations events.

It is estimated that the December 2002 event will attract some 100,000 people from all nationalities and countries of the world to Melbourne who will also have the opportunity to enjoy a visit to Stonnington City Council newest tourist destination... our "World Peace 2000 (Australia) Monument!
